Snow Clean-up Site project One of the factors, which add to the pollution of the river is dirty snow from the streets of the city. To eliminate this factor we propose the construction of a special technological site for snow clean up. The logic of survival of the human kind motivated many industrialized countries to actively address environmental issues. A cardinal change is needed in the dominating aggressive and business oriented paradigm of society development. As the academician N.N.Moiseev put it " a creative search of compromise is needed between the "non-interference" and "conquering" of nature. It is necessary to adapt our aims and needs to the ability of the biosphere, thus changing many standards to which we got accustomed. The work presupposes designing of a project of a construction of a snow clean-up site. Technological sites for accumulation and treatment of polluted snow could be organized in the same places, where they dump snow now. The site can be set up both at a flat place, and on a slope spot. This allows constructing in practically everywhere at minimum cost. It is preferable to locate the site in the area of water flows, like small rivers, creeks or ponds. To locate the site in a more convenient manner in the city areas landscape fixation is needed. ![]() The site is designed, as a field covered by asphalt, which is a little bit inclined or it can be an accumulator of snow which is fenced on three sides by concrete walls 2-3 m high, with reinforcement ribs for additional support in case of huge volumes of snow. In the lower part of the site there are wells and settling reservoirs for sand. On top the niches are covered by metal grids to retain big-size garbage and for further collection. The sand, which is accumulated on the bottom of the wells will be evacuated by special machinery or a loader and is removed from the site to be used elsewhere. The purified water through the pipeline flowers into the settler where perforated horizontal plates are installed. The plates are easily removable and changed by new ones, because the aggressive water media affects them. The water coming to the settling reservoir is not cleaned from the small fractions and inclusions, as well from the oil and other solutions, which are not separated by sedimentation in settling reservoirs. The water after the treatment in the settling reservoir comes through the valve and pump to the large settling reservoir or treated water-accumulating tank. The settling reservoir can be constructed both on the surface and under the surface. Accumulating tank settling reservoir is preferably to be constructed from non-corrosive materials: either from concrete, or iron with plastic coating. If the technological site for collection of polluted snow is constructed on the slope the discharge of water from the accumulation system can be done without use of pumps, by using only valves and technological holes. Also the site accommodates the rooms for the servicing personal and instruments. Around the site and the settling reservoirs there are access ways for the clean up of filtersand possible repair. The sizes of technological sites are not limited and depend on the local terrain or area of dirty snow collection. The main result that the construction of technological sites will bring about is the healthier residents, the cleaner city and water. Additionally this project presupposes the secondary use of the road material, i.e. of the sand which is accumulated in the settling reservoirs and removed from the site or to other places. ![]()
